King Philippe of Belgium at the Celebration of the Sunday of Orthodoxy

On March 17, Saints Archangels Michael and Gabriel Orthodox Cathedral in Brussels hosted the celebration of the Sunday of Orthodoxy, which commemorates the restoration of icons and the condemnation of iconoclasm.

At this occasion, Fr. Sorin Selaru, Director of the Permanent Office of the Romanian Orthodox Church to the EU Institutions, participated in the Liturgy presided by His Eminence Athenagoras, Metropolitan of Belgium. The King Philippe of Belgium was present throughout the Divine Liturgy, marking the first official visit from a king of Belgium to an Orthodox Church. Representatives from other Christian denominations and from the Belgian government, such as His Eminence Cardinal Jozef De Kesel, Archbishop of Mechelen-Brussel (Malines- Bruxelles), His Eminence Archbishop Augustine Kasujja, Apostolic Nuncio in Belgium, His Excellency Koen Geens, Belgian Minister of Justice and Cults, were also present.
